The leafy canopy is now over 5 feet tall and the green grape clusters are growing plumper by the day. Right now we are finishing up with leaf pulling to increase the sunlight and wind action on the clusters along with the efficiency of the sprays. We had a heck of a wind storm that knocked down a lot of trees and blew the vines round pretty badly but they are tough and survived beautifully. The next job will be to drop(cut off) some of the fruit so as not to stress the vines and to produce the highest quality wine possible.
We released our 2005 Cabernet franc this past weekend to our wine club and were delighted to have such an enthusiastic response. This is the second wine that Perry and Ros have made in our own cellar. It will be available to all in August. Mostly it is pretty quiet in the winery though we will rack some wines, a process which involves pumping the wine out of the barrels and into a tank where it is blended and then sending it back to the barrels again for more aging and integration.
We have two hens sitting on a bunch of eggs and they are just starting to hatch. Isn't it funny how the two are sitting together! We also just adopted a new duckling that was abandoned by it's Mom. It is a lively animal swimming all the time and eating like an elephant.
We've extended the days we're open and added some more tasting room friends. Stop by our Tasting Barn and visit Maureen, Susanne, Nick, Perry, Ros and Chris and taste our new wines. We're open 11 AM to 5 PM, Thursday through Monday, giving you more weekdays to stop by for some more relaxing non-weekend wine tasting.
Come and spend the day at The Old Field Vineyards! John Jude will have his glass blowing station set up all day so that you can see his beautiful pieces of art come to life. If you see something that you like why not take it home with you. Starting at 3 PM we will have Michael Draddy playing folk music under the trees next to the tasting room. Both are FREE Events. Then at 5 PM we will be pairing up with the Southold Fish market to host a dinner outside. A reservation is a must because of limited spacing so please call us at 631-834-4897.
Every Thursday night in August we will be showing Movies down on the great Lawn by the water. Please bring your chairs, blankets, and picnics and let us provide you with the wine!

Filled with bright, white, cherry Pinot Noir fruit, this driest of the sparkling wines will delight your mouth with its tiny bubbles!
Made using the French Méthode Champenoise Style — the secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle where the wine remains until it is sold. This allows for the wine to become more fully integrated with the yeast which produces a more complex wine. Only 20% of the United States' sparkling wine is produced using this method because it takes extra labor, time, and aging space.
